Natural lip color, definition, and symmetry — permanently.

What it is

Wake up with color.

Lip blushing uses a digital PMU machine to deposit pigment across the entire lip area, adding a soft, natural-looking flush of color. We also refine the lip border to improve definition and symmetry.

The result looks like your lips — just more colorful, more defined, and more even. Not drawn-on. Not overdone. Candra, a Licensed Medical Micropigmentologist at Shaded & Bladed on Memorial Drive in Tulsa, OK, custom-blends every pigment before the session begins.

Lip blushing is a good choice if your lips are uneven in color, lack definition along the border, have lost volume or pigment over time, or if you simply want to skip lip liner and gloss.

The healing timeline

Lip healing is the most dramatic of any PMU service. Knowing what to expect prevents unnecessary concern. Questions about healing? See our FAQ.

Day 1–2

Lips look significantly darker and more saturated than the final result. This is normal — the color will soften dramatically.

Day 3–5

Lips begin to peel. Do not pick. Keep the area dry and apply the provided healing ointment twice daily.

Day 6–10

Color appears very light — almost gone. This is the "ghosting" phase and is completely normal. Color will return.

Week 2–6

Pigment gradually resurfaces. By week 4–6, you'll see the true healed color. Full healing completes around 6 weeks.

6–8 weeks

Touch-up appointment. We assess retention and add more pigment where needed. This is when results are finalized.

Important: The "ghosting" phase around days 6–10 alarms many clients. The color appears almost completely gone. This is normal — it resurfaces as healing continues. Do not schedule a touch-up before the 6-week mark.

Lip blushing vs. lip filler

Both are popular lip treatments, but they do completely different things. Here's how they compare so you can decide what's right for you.

If you want color and definition that's low-maintenance and heals naturally, lip blushing is the better choice. If you want volume, lip filler is a different product entirely. The two procedures can complement each other — but they do not replace each other.

What's included

Natural color enhancement

Lip blushing adds a soft wash of color that enhances your natural lip tone — not replaces it. Results look like healthy, natural lips.

Corrects asymmetry

The lip outline is redrawn to improve symmetry and definition. We can subtly refine shape without dramatic changes.

Custom pigment blending

Pigment is mixed specifically for you, based on your natural lip color, skin tone, and desired result. You approve before we start.

2.5–3 hour sessions

Lips require more numbing time and careful color layering. Your initial session typically takes 2.5–3 hours.

6–8 week touch-up

A touch-up at 6–8 weeks is essential for lip blushing. Lip pigment fades significantly during healing — the touch-up restores saturation and finalizes the result.

Lasts 2–3 years

Results are semi-permanent. Sun exposure and certain skincare products accelerate fading. Touch-up sessions are available.

Frequently asked questions

How long does lip blushing last?+

Lip blushing at Shaded & Bladed lasts 2–3 years. Lip pigment fades faster than brow pigment due to regular movement, eating, drinking, and sun exposure. A color boost every 1–2 years keeps the result looking fresh. The 6–8 week touch-up after your initial session is essential for the best outcome.

Does lip blushing hurt?+

Topical numbing cream is applied before every session. Most clients describe lip blushing as more sensitive than brow procedures — lips have more nerve endings. With numbing, discomfort is manageable. Some clients take an over-the-counter pain reliever beforehand. Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen, which thin blood.

What is the "ghosting" phase in lip blushing healing?+

The ghosting phase occurs around days 6–10 of healing, when the lip color appears almost completely gone. This is a normal part of the process — the pigment is setting beneath the skin. Color gradually resurfaces over the following weeks. Do not schedule a touch-up before the 6-week mark; the color will return.

Is lip blushing the same as getting lip filler?+

No. Lip blushing deposits pigment into the skin for color and definition. Lip filler injects a substance to add volume and projection. They serve completely different purposes. Lip blushing does not add volume — it adds color, definition, and symmetry. Both procedures can be done together, but they are not interchangeable.

Individual results vary. Consult your artist for a personalized assessment. See our full FAQ for more answers.
