About the author
Candra is a Licensed Medical Micropigmentologist and PMU Instructor at Shaded & Bladed in Tulsa, OK. She walks every first-time client through this process from the first consultation call.
Your first permanent makeup appointment at Shaded & Bladed in Tulsa takes approximately 3 hours. That window covers everything: the pre-procedure consultation and brow or lip mapping, numbing time, the actual procedure, and the aftercare walk-through before you leave. Candra, a Licensed Medical Micropigmentologist at 8026 S Memorial Dr, works with first-time clients every day. The most common feedback after a first appointment is that it was less intimidating than expected. Here is exactly what happens so you can walk in knowing what to expect.
Step 1 — Arrival and pre-procedure consultation (20–30 minutes)
You arrive at the studio at 8026 S Memorial Dr, Tulsa, OK 74133. The first part of your appointment is a face-to-face consultation — even if you had a virtual or phone consultation before booking.
Candra reviews your skin type, your goals, any skincare products you use that affect healing (retinol, AHAs), and your health history to confirm you are a good candidate on the day of your appointment. She will look at your natural brows or lip shape and discuss your color preferences.
If anything has changed since your pre-booking consultation — new medications, recent sun exposure, skin changes — this is the time to mention it. Come with a clean face: no brow makeup, no lip product, no mascara. Removing products from the treatment area adds time and delays numbing.
Step 2 — Mapping and design (15–20 minutes)
For brow services (nano brows or powder brows), Candra maps your brows using professional measuring tools before any pigment is applied. This step determines the start, arch, and tail of each brow based on your facial anatomy — bone structure, eye shape, forehead width.
You review the mapped shape while still fully awake and comfortable. Nothing is permanent at this stage — shape adjustments are made with pencil, not pigment. You should feel fully happy with the mapped shape before Candra proceeds. This is the step where you ask questions about placement, arch height, or thickness.
For lip blushing, Candra maps the border symmetry and reviews your color selection with swatches on the skin. The pigment color looks different on the skin than in the jar — the pre-procedure color check ensures you are choosing the right shade for your skin tone.
Step 3 — Numbing (20–30 minutes)
Topical anesthetic is applied to the treatment area and left on for 20–30 minutes. During this time you can relax. Most clients browse their phone, listen to music, or chat with Candra.
The numbing cream is reapplied during the procedure as needed to maintain comfort. Most clients describe nano brows and powder brows as a mild scratching sensation — noticeable but not painful. Lip blushing is slightly more sensitive due to the higher nerve density of the lip area, but the numbing process is the same and most clients find it very manageable.
Caffeine and alcohol can reduce numbing efficacy — avoid caffeine the morning of your appointment (water and food are fine and recommended) and avoid alcohol for 24 hours before.
Step 4 — The procedure (60–90 minutes)
Once you are numb, the actual procedure begins. Candra works methodically through the mapped area, building the brow or lip result in passes. You remain reclined in the treatment chair — most clients are comfortable throughout.
You do not need to hold still beyond normal breathing. The digital PMU machine does not require you to be rigid. Some clients close their eyes and rest; others prefer to talk. Either is fine.
For nano brows, the session builds each hair stroke in the mapped pattern. You will hear the gentle hum of the machine. For powder brows, passes of soft shading build the ombré finish gradually. For lip blushing, color is built from the border inward for even coverage.
If you need a water break, a bathroom break, or feel any discomfort, tell Candra — the session can pause at any time.
Step 5 — What you leave looking like
At the end of your appointment, the treated area will look bolder and more intense than the healed result will be. Brows appear darker, more defined, and possibly slightly drawn-on. Lip blushing looks more vivid than the final color. This is expected and will soften significantly over the following 4–6 weeks.
There may be very mild redness and minimal swelling at the treatment site. This typically resolves within a few hours. You leave the studio looking polished, not raw or swollen.
Before you go, Candra walks you through the complete aftercare protocol for the first 10 days. You receive written aftercare instructions and any ointment needed. Your 6–8 week touch-up appointment is scheduled before you leave — this appointment is included in your service price and should not be skipped.
